A new gig with AGCare

AGCare logoThis week marked the start of my 14-month stint as Executive Director for AGCare.

AGCare provides science-based information and policy initiatives on environmental issues on behalf of Ontario’s 45,000 crop and horticulture farmers – efforts that are sorely needed to represent farmers’ interests relating to hot topic issues like pesticides, water, soil conservation and general environmental stewardship.

The positive steps farmers have taken over the last twenty years – such as reducing the use of pesticides by over 50% or taking the equivalent of 125,000 cars off the road by improving soil conservation practices – are a testament to their commitment to the environment. After all, what they do on their farms with water, soil and other resources not only impacts society as a whole, it also directly affects their families who live and work on those very farms.

I’m sure this won’t be the last that I will write about farming and environmental issues as I delve further into my role at AGCare…stay tuned!
