If we want to feed the world – and do it in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner – organics won’t cut it.

That’s the message the World Wildlife Fund’s Director of Livestock will be bringing to the AGCare/Ontario Farm Animal Council annual meeting in Guelph on March 12.

Bryan Weech says we have to do more with less when it comes to agriculture – growing more food to feed more people but using less land, less water and less resources – in order to preserve wildlife habitats and rural landscapes.

Organics, while a great niche for both some consumers and some farmers, do not produce the same yields and if the entire world were to shift to organic-only production, much more land would have to be used for agriculture.

The meeting will be held March 12 at the Guelph Place banquet hall with the speakers’ program starting at 1:15 pm.  Should be an interesting one!
