The posts have been very sporadic here lately as I have been quite sidetracked with other projects…the “I should blog about this” pile is getting bigger though. And tonight’s activities were possibly just the inspiration to get me back into it, I think.

Tonight I participated in #agchat on Twitter. I found out about it randomly last week through tweets by @czimmerman (thanks Chuck!) on last week’s chat and was intrigued. Enough to rouse myself off the couch and become a participant myself this week.

It’s a live chat involving anyone interested in conversations about agriculture, food and farming. There were six questions this week to keep us thinking, tweeting and focusing. Ok, so the last one was a little difficult with all the comments and insights flying back and forth but it was an interesting experiment to me on many levels.

First of all, it was really cool to connect with other aggies from across North America. We have a lot of common concerns and issues – and can learn from each other’s approaches and solutions.

Secondly, neat ideas came out for future chats – like inviting non-aggies to join the conversation to learn about food and farming and trying to get more farmers participating to engage in the dialogue. I’m looking forward to next week’s chat already.

And finally, I always like using new technologies and trying new things – giving in to the cravings of my inner geek, perhaps? I’ve used Twitter for over a year and am finding it becoming more and more interesting as its subscriber numbers grow.  I followed tonight’s chat using tweetchat – one of many Twitter applications and tools out there.

If you’re interested in participating, you can check it out next Tuesday night from 8 – 10 pm (EDT). You can follow on Twitter using #agchat or log in to tweetchat.com and enter the #agchat room.

Thanks to @mpaynknoper for launching this!
