Access to high-speed internet availability is indeed a concern, and should be a right for all Canadians. I remember just 3 short years ago when we lived in a part of MB where high-speed internet would have cost several hundred dollars for installation in addition to about $80/month for service. Who can afford that! So I had to wait 45-minutes as each photo for story assignments was transmitted to my editors (I’m a freelance writer.) We moved 3 years ago (further from Wpg but fortunately within a high-speed area) and now transmissions are instantaneous! Life is so much easier, and in turn it has made my business more efficient and more profitable.

The internet is pivotal. I read a short recent post showing a farmer’s desk with a massive computer screen and an assortment of papers spread out before it. The writer’s point was that to be organic she had to fill out tons of forms, mostly on-line, as well as do her seed shopping, research, and outreach via the internet. If farmer’s don’t have ready access to high-speed, it slows them down and sets them back even further. It can really crimp a farm’s progress.
