What we do
On this blog, I write about the farming side of food.
But there’s more to the story.
My company, Agri-Food Project Services Ltd. specializes in agricultural communications and marketing from the farm to the fork - to farmers and agri-business, processors, retailers, consumers, government and media.
This includes:
*writing and editing - news releases, proposals, brochures, websites, annual reports, educational resources, presentations
*conference planning
*conference web coverage - articles, blog posts and photographs
*project planning and management
*consumer marketing
*public and media relations
How do I know what I do about food, farming, writing and communications?
Good question. Here’s the answer.
Principal - Lilian Schaer (that’s me!)
I’m a writer, blogger, communications specialist and project manager. I’m currently the interim Executive Director of AGCare (Agricultural Groups Concerned About Resources and the Environment), which means I work with Ontario’s 45,000 fruit, vegetable, crop and horticulture farmers on environmental issues.
Previously, I was Manager, Research Communications and Marketing at the University of Guelph and Communications Manager at Ontario Pork, where I was responsible for member communications and publications, media relations and special marketing and promotion programs.
I’m fluent in German and grew up on a family dairy and beef farm near Hanover, Ontario.
I’m also an active agricultural freelance writer, communications project manager and conference planner. I write a monthly column for the Guelph Mercury and my work has also appeared in Ontario Hog Farmer, Ontario Beef Farmer, Canadian Cattlemen, The Grower, The Corn Producer, British Farmer and Grower, The Farm Journalist, The Guelph Tribune, Owen Sound Sun Times, Waterloo Region Record and Canadian Woodworking.
I’m a graduate of the University of Guelph and the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program and a member of the Canadian Farm Writers Federation and the American Agricultural Editors Association.
I’m co-chair of the 2011 International Federation of Agricultural Journalists annual congress, to be hosted in Canada for the first time since 1967, and served as co-chair of the 2007 Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation annual conference.
