The nightly Ontario TV show is heading to Kingston this weekend as part of its “On the Road” series focusing on local economies in the province. And I’m going to be part of the fun.
Crews, previously a Vice President of the OFA, takes the helm of Ontario’s largest farm organization during a time of turmoil in agriculture. Farmers have been hit hard with higher prices for everything from fuel to fertilizer, as well as the uncertainty of a fluctutating dollar, an increasing regulatory burden and trade challenges. We are faced with a daily deluge of bad news — falling stocks, job losses, even the dreaded “r” word. Without a doubt, our country is sliding into some tough economic times that will mean change, turbulence and upheaval. Not a pleasant prospect but I would argue that some are perhaps better equipped to handle this turmoil than others.
