I came across an interesting post today on a blog called “Gate to Plate” by Michele Payn-Knoper. She talks about hunger and how sad it is that in a country as rich in land, food and farmers as the United States, children have to go without.

Even here in Ontario where a strong farming sector produces an abundance of top quality food and exports much of it to other countries, higher food prices are becoming a fact of life. The growth of renewable fuels – especially ethanol whose main ingredient is corn – and the concept of growing plants for fuel instead of food are being pegged as the number one reason behind the rising food costs. This corn, the argument goes, is corn that should be going to feed people and not cars.
Located just off Hwy 35/115 on the road to cottage country near Newcastle, the farm of Charles and Judi Stevens boasts 20 acres of blueberry bushes of different varieties – strategically selected to extend the picking season as long as five to seven weeks.
