“Taste the Future” in Belleville this week

Value-added agriculture is the theme of this year’s Canadian Farm Writers conference – hosted in the beautiful Quinte region. The area – encompassing Prince Edward, Hastings and Northumberland Counties – is one steeped in tradition dating back to the arrival of the first United Empire Loyalists more than 200 years ago.

It has also largely been an undiscovered gem amongst Ontario’s tourism destinations until lately, when a push by local groups to promote the area’s burgeoning agri-tourism sector is drawing growing numbers of tourists to the region. The Toronto Star alone has featured various aspects of Quinte in its travel section on two or three separate occasions this spring and summer – a testament to the marketing savvy of local promoters.

The latest ran on September 15: Bloomfield blossoms again.
