Canada cleans up
There was an impressive showing by Canadian agricultural writers and photographers at the 2008 Star Prize awards handed out at the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists in Graz, Austria yesterday.
Laura Rance of Manitoba won top honors in the “people” category of the photography competition with an entry called Classroom at the Farm, shown here on the left.
Jamie Reaume, formerly with The Grower, newspaper of the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, won an honorable mention for a photo depicting peach harvest as did Guelph-based photographer Kyle Rodrigues with his photo showing urban growth expanding into farming areas (pictured below).
Ontario freelance writer Treena Hein was awarded the Star Prize in Agricultural Journalism – handed out by the international federation to the best story of the year, selected from amongst entries submitted by the 29 member countries. Treena’s story was about hemp and first appeared in Small Farm Canada in January 2007.

Very nice blog
The Canadian writers and photographers did a great job in the last year. Next time I hope the Dutch photographers give a bit more competition. Not many of them did send in their pictures. In my country there are very good photographers.
May be next year in Texas
