Farms up close and personal
For anyone curious about food and farming, this is your season!
Fall means harvest and along with it come a multitude of opportunities to visit farms, talk to farmers and see first hand how our food is produced. You can find events in your area by checking in with your local farmers’ market, chamber of commerce or local food organization.
These days, almost every county or municipality has information about locally produced foods and many are offering special weekend events throughout the fall to promote them.
Here are a few upcoming events on the Ontario calendar:
Celebrate the Season farm tour, Norfolk County (Town of Simcoe area) on September 10
Local food tent at the Guelph Jazz Festival, hosted by Guelph Wellington Local Food, on September 12 in Guelph
Eastern Ontario farm tours in the lower Ottawa Valley on September 12-13 and 19-20
Tour de Greenbelt in four different regions of the Greenbelt on weekends in September
Eat Local Month in Caledon just north of Toronto with different events and tours through out September
Free, self-guided “Round the County” ag tour in Chatham Kent. Contact the Kent Federation of Agriculture for more information
Wellington County Rural Romp farm tour day on September 26th
If you know of others, let me know and I’ll add them to the list!
