Awards from the Canadian Farm Writers
I’m not usually one for shameless self-promotion, but in this instance, I can’t help but share some very good news.
I was totally thrilled to learn this past weekend that I was the winner of not one but two writing awards at the Canadian Farm Writers Federation (CFWF) annual banquet on Saturday night.
The CFWF program recognizes the best in Canadian agricultural writing and broadcasting and annually attracts several hundred entries across 14 different categories.
Against that backdrop of competition, I was particularly excited to be recognized:
- Silver award, Monthly Press Reporting: “Teats and Tweets”, published in Ontario Dairy Farmer
- Bronze award, Press Editorial: “Stop bashing those who grow our food”, published in Owen Sound Sun Times
Both entries can be found as posts on this blog. You can check them out here:

Thanks for the comments, Judy! If you’re into egg production for personal use, there’s a really handy backyard chicken checklist that was produced by Egg Farmers of Ontario. I wrote about it on this blog a few months ago:
https://www.foodandfarmingcanada.com/2010/01/13/backyard-chicken-checklist/. If you’re into commercial production, your best bet is to connect with the ministry of agriculture in your province or the provincial egg marketing board.
Many thanks for reading!

Way to go, and I liked the article In defense of farmers. I have recently got into egg production and would like to know if you know of any good sites for info. regards Judy

Thanks much, Doreen! I actually couldn’t attend this year either, which was too bad as it’s always a good event – both fun and educational:).

Thanks, Al. I didn’t get the chance to get to Moose Jaw for the conference this year – but welcome to farm writers. Hopefully we’ll see you next year in Ontario!
